Scott Hewicker, "Days Without End," Rare, 435 West 14th St.

Mr. Hewicker, a San Franciscan, paints faux-primitive, visionary landscapes. Poured, dripped, smeared and brushed areas of paint are altered to become mountains, oceans, clouds and trees populated by tiny cats, butterflies, flowers, mushrooms and old ships. The best, like "Legend Days Are Over," have an engaging abstract complexity while exhuding zany cosmic consciousness
